What are the health benefits?
Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate - nutrients that are needed to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy - in the body. It promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate calcium and phosphate concentrations to prevent cramps and spasms. It is required for bone growth. Vitamin D sufficiency prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis.
